Berlin, Germany – March 2, 2014 – Rivulet Artisan Pecan Liqueur is pleased to announce its winning a coveted bronze medal at the 1st Annual Berlin International Spirits Competition. The Berlin International Spirits Competition (“BISC”) held its inaugural event on March 2nd at The Kempinski Hotel in the heart of Berlin, considered Europe’s powerful new center for trends, style and fashion.
Founded by Adam Levy, aka the “alcohol professor,” The Berlin International Spirits Competition is the first major international spirits competition with trade-only judges from top to bottom. Judges are buyers from top spirits retail stores, restaurant and bar owners, distributors and importers, and cocktail mixologists. This guarantees that each spirit is evaluated by those who make a real impact on sales. BISC prides itself that it only awards medals to about 35% of submissions, as opposed to other competitions that give away up to 85% of medals to entrants. The BISC is part of the New York International Beverage Competition, which holds annual competitions in Melbourne, Australia, in addition to Berlin and New York.

About the Judges
The judges are a panel of real trade buyers, a diverse group from over seven European countries including Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands, The United Kingdom, Italy, and Denmark. They include top mixologists, retail store buyers and distributors…real buyers judging the spirit by its category and actual price. We call this “the real world.” These judges are some of the most respected members in the industry and especially in their own country. This is a wonderful opportunity for established and new brands to be judged in a pure blind taste test by category and price. The judges travel expenses are covered by the competition.
About the Competition
The spirits industry has watched the success of the New York International Spirits Competition and sought a European Competition with a trade-only, blind judging panel. The retail store buyer, sommelier, restaurant beverage director, hotelier, distributor and importer are the judges for the Berlin International Spirit Competition. We feel these judges, whose livelihoods rely upon their skill set, truly know what the consumer wants. They receive on a daily basis the feedback from the consumer of what is good and what will sell at what price.
The competition is open to all commercially produced spirits from around the world, even if not currently being sold in the Euro Zone. Berlin is an exciting vibrant city with a wonderful food and spirits scene. The competition was pleased to have a great mix of trade buyers from Germany and the rest of Europe judging the inaugural 2014 competition.
