Demanding applications such as Medical Video, Circuit Emulation and Video Conferencing require the highest possible quality and lowest latency. Unfortunately, IP networks by their nature may suffer from impairments that negatively impact the quality of the application, including delay, jitter and packet loss. Existing QoS schemes may optimize one of these impairments at the cost of another.

Rivulet's Dynamic Synchronization Technology™ (DST) is the first solution that can virtually eliminate all of these impairments simultaneously while enabling link utilization to increase to more than 90 percent. The secret sauce of DST lies in its ability to manage IP flows as they traverse the network so that they never compete for the same network resources and, therefore, cannot impact each other. DST improves the priority-queuing capability available in existing routers and switches by enabling the network with "timing awareness."

Once the network is timing-aware, each flow can be synchronously placed on the network in such a way that there are no conflicts for switch and router resources. DST can be deployed in software or hardware endpoints that manage critical application flows in the time domain. As each flow is established, DST automatically discovers an open "time slot" through the network and reserves that slot, thereby eliminating any contention.
